Drainage Ditch Creates a Gap in the Trail
Here is an example of a "gap" in the trail. This drainage ditch is a
city easement bounded by private property on both sides. In order for
the trail to be continuous, somebody needs to build a bridge. Who would
build it? Who would pay for it? What about liability? Who would
maintain it? The City? The private property owners? The
complexities and challenges seem almost insurmountable. When this ditch
was made, it didn't occur to anybody that people might want to walk
along the bay for fun and exercise. The prime concern was to provide
flooding control for the adjacent businesses.
